INDEPENDENT THOUGHT REQUIRES ACCOUNTABILITY

Our standards.

Clear explanations. Visible sources. Honest limits.

What this library is

The Knowledge Institute is a public, free educational section of The Lawfare Group. Its inaugural library contains 120 concise lessons across 12 fields and 40 original book summaries. Every entry includes an applied exercise and two questions with explanations. No account, payment, or email address is required.

How it was produced

This inaugural edition was drafted with AI assistance and checked for completeness, source alignment, and technical function. It has not received a comprehensive review by independent subject-matter experts. It is a starting point for deeper study, not an accredited course or a claim of exhaustive coverage.

Sources and verification

Each entry identifies its source links and their purpose. We favor original texts, official institutions, academic materials, and author or publisher pages. A source-review date means the page was consulted in preparing that entry. It does not certify every claim, the continuing accuracy of a changing rule, or an endorsement by that source. Worked examples and exercises are original educational illustrations. Claims that depend on a particular context should be checked against the underlying source.

Book summaries and intellectual property

Summaries explain central ideas in original language and add critical perspective and application. They do not reproduce excerpts, illustrations, or the chapter-by-chapter structure of the books. Author and publisher pages may support the identity and central thesis without independently establishing all the author's claims. A summary is an introduction to the original, not a substitute for it. No author or publisher affiliation or endorsement is implied. Public-domain status of editions and translations differs by jurisdiction.

Scope and changing information

Legal, economic, technological, and historical material is general education. No lesson provides individualized legal, financial, medical, or security advice. Laws, standards, and technologies change. Read the linked primary sources and seek relevant expertise for consequential decisions.

Your learning data

Saved items, read markers, quiz scores, and optional reflections are stored in this browser on this device. They stay local unless you sign in and enable cloud sync on the account page. With sync enabled, saved items, read markers, best quiz scores, and optional reflection text are stored in Wix under your member account. Authorized site administrators can access this data for management and support. Clearing browser site data removes the local copy; it does not delete a cloud copy. Clear learning data below only clears the local copy when signed out; if sync is enabled it saves an empty progress record. Pause sync first if you only want to clear this device. Contact the owner to request deletion of the member account and associated cloud data. If browser storage is unavailable, reading, searching, and quizzes still work for the session; persistence cannot be guaranteed. You can export your progress or clear it below.

Corrections

If a claim or source appears wrong, identify the entry title, the specific passage, a supporting source, and your proposed correction through The Lawfare Group contact page. Do not include confidential information. Material corrections should update the affected entry and its review record.

Accessibility

Reading pages use semantic headings, visible keyboard focus, native form controls, reduced-motion support, and print styles. The full catalogue and all entry text are available without JavaScript. Automated and browser checks cannot establish complete accessibility conformance; feedback is welcome.
